The Coventry Writers' Group was founded in the 1960s and we believe we are the oldest established writing group in Coventry. Our group has always been supportive to anyone who has an interest in writing, and we welcome everyone, from complete beginners to professional writers.

Our meetings tend to be friendly, informal affairs, with lots of conversation about writing topics. We meet on the first Tuesday of each month. Our present meeting place is the Broomfield Tavern, Broomfield Place, Spon End, Coventry, at 8pm.

The Coventry Writers' Group meetings generally alternate by concentrating on readings of our work one month, and a workshop or speaker the following month.

We have always enjoyed real mix of members, from those just starting out with their writing ambitions, to those who are published in all forms of writing – poetry, plays, non-fiction, children's fiction, adult fiction, sci-fi, romance, magazine writing – all sorts.

In 2011 the Coventry Writers' Group put together and published an anthology of their work, called Coventry Tales, which went on to be awarded the Best Writers' Circle Anthology 2012. We followed this up with another anthology entitled Christmas Tales.

For the last two years the group have also taken part in the Coventry Literary Festival, by putting on a performance of our work at the Criterian Theatre Earlsdon. Later this year we will again be working to create another anthology of our latest stories, poems and articles.

Membership of the Coventry Writers' Group is only £10 per year, and new members can enjoy three visits to see if it's for them before parting with any cash!
